Live streaming (YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram)
Stream the jam live from your PC, with the consent of whoever plays.
Who can go live
In a room only the owner and the moderators can go live; outside a room anyone can, for example on your own. The stream leaves from your PC: the audience hears the jam as in the recording (the others as you hear them plus what you send) and sees the tiles of the video window.
The director window
- In the video window press LIVE: the Live stream director opens, with a preview of what will go on air.
- Shots: the tiles of the video window; a click puts a tile on air or takes it off.
- Layout: Grid, Spotlight (one big, the others below) or Single; Names and GangJam logo over the picture.
- START and PAUSE put on air, instead of the jam, the opening card («The live stream will start shortly») or the pause card («The live stream will be back shortly»); pressed again, the jam is back. With Start with the opening card the live stream begins with the card.
- Audio: the jam as in the recording (recommended), only what you send or what you hear; volume and Audio delay, which keeps the sound in time with the others' video (300 ms is usually fine).
Cards and logo
- CARDS AND LOGO… opens the settings: the logo over the live stream (GangJam's or a picture of your own, the corner and the size) and the two cards.
- For each card choose the text, the background (dark, a picture or a video that starts over), the logo (GangJam's, yours or none) and the audio: silence, the video's audio or a backing track in a loop, with its volume. During a card the audience does not hear the jam.
- The opening card can have a countdown in minutes: at zero the jam comes in by itself.
- The cards' audio goes only to the live stream: in your headphones you keep hearing the jam.
Where to stream
- Choose YouTube, Twitch or Facebook and paste the stream key from the platform's live page (on YouTube: YouTube Studio, Create, Go live). The key stays encrypted on this PC.
- Instagram: in Live Producer (instagram.com, + Create, Live) copy the server URL and the key, which change with every live stream. The video goes out vertical.
- Other takes any rtmp:// or rtmps:// address.
- On YouTube a channel's first live stream must be enabled, and the activation can take 24 hours.
- 720p uses about 3.5 Mbps of upload on top of the jam; if the network can't keep up, the quality drops by itself.
The consent of whoever plays
- When you press GO LIVE, the others in the room get a request. Until they accept, their video and audio stay out of the live stream; whoever refuses stays out until the end.
- The director window shows who still has to answer and who said no.
- During the live stream everybody sees the red LIVE badge at the top left and on the video window's button.
Troubleshooting
- «The platform refused the stream key»: copy the key again from the platform's page; on YouTube check that live streaming is enabled.
- «Connection lost: retrying on its own»: the stream resumes as soon as the network is back; viewers see a short pause.
- Closing the director window ends the live stream (it asks first).
