Setting up audio
Audio interface, driver, sample rate, buffer and outputs.
Driver: ASIO or Windows
- With a musician's audio interface, use its ASIO driver: it's the lowest-latency option. GangJam suggests it automatically when it finds it installed.
- Without ASIO, GangJam uses Windows devices (WASAPI): it works with any interface, with a little more latency.
- You choose the driver in Settings > Audio, on the ASIO and WASAPI tabs.
Sample rate and buffer
- GangJam runs at 48 kHz: set the same sample rate in your audio interface's control panel too.
- The buffer sets your local latency: 128 samples (2.7 ms) or 256 (5.3 ms) work fine on most PCs. If you hear crackles, raise the buffer.
- If the driver switches itself to a different sample rate, GangJam notices within about half a minute and reopens the interface at 48 kHz.
Inputs
- Each input on your audio interface becomes a mixer strip (up to 8). Double-click a strip's name to rename it.
- Other Windows devices, for example the webcam's microphone, are added as inputs in Settings > Audio.
Outputs
- OUT 1 is the audio interface's main output.
- If the interface has four outputs, the master's MONITOR button also sends the same mix to outputs 3-4, for headphones.
- Other Windows outputs (PC speakers, USB headphones) are added in Settings > Audio and appear as OUT strips, each with its own volume and MUTE.
Windows audio
While GangJam is open, the Windows default output switches to a silent device: this way the audio from your other applications goes into the mixer as separate strips instead of coming out twice. When you close GangJam, everything goes back to how it was. See the article Application audio.
